Posted on June 1, 2025

Yogini Ekadashi is an important observance in the Hindu lunar calendar, falling on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Ashadha (June-July). Like other Ekadashis, it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and devotees observe it with fasting, prayers, and spiritual practices.

Yogini Ekadashi 2025 Date: June 21, Saturday.

Ekadashi Tithi Begins: June 21, 7:19 am.

Ekadashi Tithi Ends: June 22, 4:28 am.

Significance

Yogini Ekadashi holds special importance for those seeking freedom from sins and diseases, especially ailments related to the skin. According to the Padma Purana, observing this Ekadashi with devotion can help cleanse one’s past sins and grant good health, prosperity, and eventual liberation (moksha).

The day is named ‘Yogini’, which refers to spiritual powers or energies. Observing this Ekadashi is believed to bring one closer to spiritual discipline and inner purity.

Legend Behind Yogini Ekadashi

The popular legend tells the story of Kubera, the king of wealth and a devotee of Lord Shiva. His gardener, Hemamali, once failed to perform his daily duty of offering flowers to Lord Shiva because he was distracted by his wife. Kubera cursed him to suffer from a severe disease and be separated from his wife. Hemamali wandered in pain until he met a sage who advised him to observe Yogini Ekadashi. After fasting and praying on this day, he was freed from the curse and reunited with his wife.
