Significance

Lord Ganesha is worshipped at the beginning of any new venture, ceremony, or ritual as he is believed to remove hurdles and bring good fortune. Ganesh Puja symbolises new beginnings, success, and knowledge. For students, it is especially important as they seek blessings for wisdom and learning. The festival also promotes unity, as communities come together to organise puja and cultural events.

Rituals

The celebration usually begins with the installation of Lord Ganesha’s idol in homes, pandals, or institutions. The rituals include:

Pran Pratishtha – invoking life into the idol with Vedic mantras.

Offerings (Puja Samagri) – flowers, durva grass, betel leaves, coconut, and sweets like modak and ladoo, believed to be Ganesha’s favourites.

Aarti and Bhajans – devotional songs and prayers offered by families and communities.

Visarjan – immersion of the idol in water on the final day, marking the end of the festival and symbolising the cycle of creation and dissolution.
