Amavasya 2024: Know Dates and Time for 12 months

Posted on April 14, 2024

Amavasya means “new moon day” in Hindu culture. It is the darkest night of the month as the moon is not visible in the sky.

Amavasya occurs once every lunar month, corresponding to the absence of the moon’s visible crescent.

The day of Amavasya also has religious importance in Hinduism as it is associated with rituals and observances.

It is believed that Amavasya is an auspicious day to offer Shradh and pay homage to ancestors.

People also observe fasts or engage in meditation, chanting of sacred hymns, and reading scriptures to purify their minds and souls on this occasion.

Devotees perform pujas and prayers dedicated to specific deities such as Lord Shiva, Goddess Lakshmi, and planetary deities depending on the lunar month and regional customs.

Astrologically, Amavasya is associated with cleansing rituals, planetary influences, and the performance of remedies to mitigate negative energies.
