Shani Jayanti 2025 Date, Tithi Time, Significance, Rituals

Posted on May 18, 2025

Shani Jayanti is a Hindu festival that marks the birth anniversary of Lord Shani, who is considered the deity of justice and discipline.

It usually falls on the Amavasya (new moon day) of the Jyeshtha month according to the Hindu calendar, which typically occurs in May or June. Devotees believe that Lord Shani has a powerful influence on human lives and their karma, and they worship him to seek protection from hardships and misfortunes caused by planetary movements, especially the effects of Saturn or “Shani Graha”.

Shani Jayanti 2025 Date: Tuesday, May 27.

Amavasya Tithi Begins – 12:11 PM on May 26, 2025.

Amavasya Tithi Ends – 08:31 AM on May 27, 2025.

On this day, people observe fasts, offer prayers, and perform special rituals to appease Lord Shani. Temples dedicated to Shani, particularly the famous Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra, witness large gatherings of devotees. Many also read the Shani Chalisa, recite mantras, and donate black clothes, sesame seeds, oil, and iron items to the poor, as these are believed to be Lord Shani’s favourite offerings.

The day is also significant for performing Shani Shanti pujas, which are rituals aimed at reducing the negative effects of Saturn in one’s astrological chart. Astrologers suggest that those going through Sade Sati or Dhaiya — difficult phases influenced by Saturn — benefit spiritually and mentally from observing Shani Jayanti.

For many, the occasion is not only about religious devotion but also a time for self-reflection, seeking forgiveness for past wrongs, and committing to a path of righteousness and discipline, which are the core values Lord Shani represents.
